Guide
How do I compare painting franchise opportunities in North Carolina?
Compare North Carolina painting franchises on four things that actually differ between brands: how many locations each already has in your specific metro (Charlotte and Raleigh are far more worked than Greensboro or Winston-Salem), the true cost to open from Item 7, who owns the brand, and the unit economics you get from local owners in Item 20. The brand that wins nationally may be saturated in your city.
Compare within your metro, not the state
North Carolina is not one market. Charlotte currently shows about 10 painting brands across 22 listed locations; Raleigh 8 brands and 16 locations; Greensboro and Winston-Salem far fewer. A brand that is a good bet in an under-served metro can be a poor one two hours away where three competitors already operate. Compare brands within the metro you’d actually open in.
Hold the numbers side by side — carefully
Line up each brand’s Item 7 cost, Items 5 and 6 fees, and Item 20 unit trend. But franchise numbers were never built to be compared like-for-like — territory definitions and what’s included differ. Use the comparison to write your questions, not to pick a winner.
Who owns each brand
Several painting franchise brands sit within the same parent companies. Two brands you’re comparing may answer to the same owner, which affects how much real choice you have and how the royalty and support are likely to move. Check the ownership behind each — our market pages list it per brand.
Get local unit economics
A brand’s national averages don’t tell you how a unit does in Raleigh or Charlotte. Call North Carolina owners from each brand’s Item 20 list and ask what they bill and keep locally. Local demand, labour cost and competition make the same brand perform differently by metro.
Use the market pages, then Peregrine
Our North Carolina market pages — Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro and Winston-Salem — show every painting brand’s locations and ownership, refreshed every two weeks. Start there to shortlist, then let Peregrine read each finalist’s FDD and build your owner-call questions.
